“There is no way of validation through others because they tend to validate us only if we trust ourselves” – In Martin Scorcese’s short film in New York Stories the young painter lives with a painter played by nick nolte. she does not need him for her art skills to develep and can finally leave him and just see where this brings her. she wants to know from him if she is talented enough to be an artist at all. He never says that she is not because he wants to keep her for his own pleasure and for his idea of himself as being in love or as making love. There is no big Other that knows if we have talent. I was like her when I almost was tempted to ask my professor if he thinks I will ever be a professor. I am glad I did not ask because it is an understandable but stupid question to ask. http://ift.tt/1Rp2tgG
